Back-Stepping The Goose Step
Forget about the theory of "what goes on in your bedroom is not the business of the government"; here on Miami Beach it's more like what goes on behind your gates, suddenly. Some commissioners are now loosening their collars after opening Pandora's Box: Your Home Rights.
On Tuesday, Edison was telling me about being admonished by one city boob that he was exaggerating the whole issue on his extremely popular site, sobesocialclub.com. and agitating the population. (Funny how politicians fear agitated voters.) When Edison brought up the $5,000 that very person rented his own home out for, the boob gasped, "But, that was different." Today, I ran into Edison in passing and we joked about the ordinance that would limit gifts to a host(ess) to $100. He said, "So, if a group of friends gave me wine and flowers, I would technically be breaking the law." Horrified, all I could think of were gifts of cheap wine, and of how I could probably be sent away to the pen just for the rare cheeses Pimpernel has given me.
The only "No" vote on the commission came from the gay commissioner, Michael Gangorra; his statement was simple: "It's unconstitutional". The second vote on this one will be the closest thing to assaulting City Hall with pitchforks and torches ever seen and one that I've been calling for for a long time. Sometimes they dig their own graves for you.

Just move the jewelry out of the chic blue box and into something from Sac's... and dump the XO cognac into Seagrams 7 bottles (well scrubbed), the city Godfathers will never figure it out.
