"the" Mrs. Astor

My first photo of RuPaul. Not knowing her name at the time (I soon would!), I entitled the photo, "The South Shall Rise Again". In reality, this began the final descent into madness for all of us. It was a long descent to be sure; we all had another seven years of bath-tub-gin fun before the Michael Alig murder case bubbled to the surface and nightlife sank like The Titanic. I left New York just as everything was coming down (sort of like Lady Duff Gordon, getting into the first lifeboat) and moved to the island of Cozumel for six months to dry out and plot another strategy. It wasn't as if Cozumel was a dry island, but it afforded me the time and space to realize that Miami was the place to be, and here I am.

Alexis,

Oh how this debate plays with my mind! NYC near the family or MIAMI with the sun? Where do I go? Which choice does one make in 2005? (Cozumel is not in my equation of places to populate; I have narrowed the field down to the immediate 2). *Sigh* If only one could be in all places at the same time.

P.S. - RuPaul with a Confederate Flag skirt? Who knew?!?

OMFG this picture is in his book I have. Page 99 of Letting it all hang out! I met Ru when I lived in LA at the LAEyeworks corp party. Damn she a big girl. Pleasant and a real lady with friends around him.
Kisses,

That skirt is HOT! How hilarious that she's wearing the confederate flag. Totally brilliant!

Jesse, I can only say: Six months in New York and six months here. But, become rich first. We miss you.

Knottyboy; I forgot about that, but I supplied plenty of photos for that book. Look in the credits; it won't bees hard to find my name.

Bees; that's what I thought when I saw her about to go into the staircase. How bold was that! I was soon to learn how bold she really was.

Ray; thanks for defending my honor. I'm a Yankee through and through.

Hunter; I'm looking real soon in June/July.

Orbi; if Ru ever heard you say that she wore knickers, she'd bite your nose off. Those are Confederate stockings.

Midevil; ah, the good old days: I think they are still her.

BTW, I remember what a photo whore I was in getting down on my knees to take this photo from that angle.

Ru always made everyone at ease in her presence; that was part of the aura. From day one, I saw a master plan in her mind; she was on a highway that had no detours. She was going to be known, and she did it. God love her; she never, ever did harm to anyone or make the lowliest soul seem not special. Ru has that magic. More than anything else, she is authentic. Authentic what is up for question; but she's real.
