"the" Mrs. Astor

An entire brigade of gay, Polish officers showed up at The Palace yesterday to demonstrate loyalty and show off their bodies. They were led by the ravishingly handsome, Captain Marc, who wowed me with stories of how, after the Germans had reduced Warsaw to rubble and destroyed the palace, "Varsovians went through the rubble to hide the royal artefacts". Just when have you heard the word, Varsorvians?

Anyway, just what went wrong with Poland? A tragic history of being manipulated by powerful neighbors combined with one of the most noble people of Europe. Good God, I remember my grandmother once referring to them as "those elegant Poles" and she always had a term for everyone, and none of them were nice. Of course, those were the days of Lee Radziwill. What ever happened to the Radziwills; even Bulgaria brought back their ex-king, Simeon?

Well, it has been too hectic to talk in depth with Captain Marc, but I was left with a tantalizing comment: "Anyway, next time I see you remind me to tell you what happened when I decided to follow a 7-ft tall pink drag queen down an alley in downtown Warsaw " How good is that?

The merest thought of Varsorvians sets me all a-tingle!

One of the problems was that the Poles looked wonderful in their uniforms, but they were riding horses to fight tanks... (bummer) Actually, it says volumes about Polish valor.

Jeremiah, your insight is remarkable; it has always been a troubled country.

Showtune, we miss YOU; get your ass down here for a Bloody Mary.

Pimpernel, you, too, are remarkable for you knowledge. I remember reading of the Polish cavalry, armed with machine guns, riding into Panzer tank columns. Those poor souls.

Leaving identity questions aside, at least the European Union has the Treaty of Amsterdam, which has affirmed since 1997 the principle of nondiscimination based on sexual orientation. And now that Poland is in the EU, maybe things can improve there for our fellows.
