Storm clouds can form rapidly in Miami just like these on Sunday afternoon which afforded little time to get off the beach and head for The Palace. The resulting rain and lightening storm gave a little preview to those new-comers of just what a Hurrican Party is like.
More disturbing, though, was the flickering of electricity, just like three nights ago during another rainstorm. The infrastructure is still so weakened after Wilma that the slightest stress causes waves of disruption. The prospect is bleak, with Florida Power and Light admitting that the entire system is still held together by bandaids.
A rather disturbing report today indicated that long before homeowners have started storing food and water, they have begun storing gasoline to fuel their generators. Smart little piggies have invested in underground tanks, but more are just storing fuel in their garages. There is considerable talk about what those of us without family will do, with the prevailing thought being it is better to run this year. No one wants to leave their friends or property, but whatever gasoline is stored away won't last for all that long. (Needless to say, gas pumps don't work either, without electricty.) It will be a tough choice when the time comes.

Mmmm...hurricane party!
Come back to New England. We have plenty of everything!
Why the hell am I thinking of spending August in Miami? I don't think it will be quite the same experience as 'An April in Paris'. But if I live to tell the tale it will be a hell of a tale, eh? :)
I do have at least a 12-month supply of XO cognac... everyone to my place, we'll recover together.
(That GHP must have been good for Jesse...)
Maybe the doomsdayers should read the DaVinci Code and discover the original non-satanic meaning of 666.
